Salary Band 8:                    $71.300 – $89,200 – $107,000

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

The Managing Director of the Network for Business Sustainability (www.nbs.net) is responsible for executing NBS’s strategy, including planning, governing, budgeting, fundraising, and recruiting, training and retaining staff. The incumbent must ensure the organization has the resources and direction to achieve its global mandate: bridging research and practice to advance business sustainability.

The Network for Business Sustainability is a publicly and privately funded knowledge management network that provides co-created knowledge resources free of charge. NBS engages in three collaborative processes: embedding, innovating, and dialoguing. It comprises 5500+ members, operates in 3 countries, communicates in 2 languages, and partners substantially with about 100 organizations.

KEY RESULTS AREAS:

  1. Strategy, planning and governance (40%)

The incumbent will work with the CEO, NBS’s Advisory Board, Global Affiliate Directors and Project Directors to develop the organization’s strategy. S/he will contribute meaningfully to this strategy based on a deep understanding of the needs of the organization and its partners as well as the competitive and collaborative landscape. The incumbent must also ensure that NBS is organized to succeed.

  1. Operations (30%)

The incumbent will recruit, supervise and develop senior staff. The Executive Director must also ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, resulting in high quality products and processes.

  1. Fundraising, finance, legal, and admin (30%)

The incumbent will ensure that there are adequate funds for NBS to progress towards its mission and that those funds are appropriately allocated. S/he will also be responsible for stewarding major donors.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education

  • An advanced degree (Doctoral or research-based Masters) in management or a related field.

Experience

  • 5-10 years leadership experience; global management experience an asset
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in business sustainability or responsibility
  • Proven track record in project management and team management

Skills

  • Strategic vision and leadership.
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial, and resourceful.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with key stakeholders from universities, corporations and government.
  • Familiarity with academic research and management practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a globally distributed team.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to work within a complex, evolving environment.

Location: Preference will be given to candidates willing to live in London, Ontario.

This is a 2 year renewable contract position with a comprehensive benefits package.
