THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Manager of Research Grants & Evaluation, the Knowledge Translation Coordinator will support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s research communication activities.
This role is primarily responsible for translating information about Crohn’s and Colitis Canada funded research into easy to understand content for both internal and external audiences. The Coordinator may also be required to translate other inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) related research information.
This role requires strong writing and research skills, and an ability to present information effectively to different audiences. We are looking for someone who is creative, collaborative, and passionate about knowledge translation.
This position will be based out of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s national office in Toronto and may require occasional travel while fulfilling the duties of the role (less than 10%).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draft an array of written communications products about Crohn’s and Colitis Canada funded research including articles, web copy, video scripts, presentation materials, research reports, and newsletters;
- Interpret and identify key results from scientific research and analyses and succinctly summarize findings for different audiences;
- Update research communications content on the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada website;
- Update and maintain the internal database, which houses progress updates on funded research projects;
- Review and edit presentations prepared by researchers that will be used to share knowledge through dissemination activities, including webinars and in-person sessions;
- Work collaboratively with team members to coordinate the Annual Research Report process to produce a product that showcases the impact of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s research investments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Postsecondary education in communications, journalism, health sciences, adult education or other related discipline;
- 2+ years of experience writing health research communications;
- Familiarity with the ‘language of’ health research and methodologies;
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills;
- Critical thinker and self-starter with strong research, interviewing, and information-gathering skills;
- Demonstrated ability to adapt writing styles for various audiences and communications channels;
- Strong proficiency with the Microsoft suite of software, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;
- Ability to work constructively and professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders, including researchers, staff, patients, and volunteers;
- Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate various activities within tight deadlines;
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Experience with creative production software (such as Photoshop, Illustrator or Premiere) is an asset;
- An understanding of adult learning principles is an asset;
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in French is an asset; and
- Able to work evenings and weekends, when needed.
