As part of its Health Research Roadmap, CIHR is leading a national dialogue on how to best support and invest in patient-oriented research. The overall goal of the strategy (SPOR) is to improve health care and health outcomes for Canadians through patient-oriented research. The aims of the Strategy are outlined in the discussion document: Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research: a discussion paper for a 10-year plan to change health care using the levers of research which will be finalized in the fall of 2010.
The success of the Strategy requires widespread buy-in from major stakeholders including research institutions, clinical scientists and universities, provinces and territories, health charities, industry, and the Government of Canada. It will also require significant investments, alignment and coordination of research efforts.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Knowledge Translation and Public Outreach, and in close collaboration with the Strategy on Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Steering Committee, the Executive Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives and approaches to promote patient-oriented research in Canada.
