The Knowledge Translation and Transfer (KTT) initiative established under the enhanced OMAFRA-University of Guelph partnership agreement renewed in 2008 is designed to accelerate the transformation of knowledge into use. This new program includes building and expanding on long-established practices in extension and technology transfer, as well as the development and implementation of new initiatives designed to connect research conducted through the University of Guelph-OMAFRA partnership with existing and potential user groups across a variety of communities.

The Knowledge Mobilization Program Manager is responsible for delivering on the strategic vision for the KTT initiative within the University of Guelph – OMAFRA partnership, as it relates to target audiences connected with agri-food policy issues and industry outreach in Ontario and beyond. This KM Program Manager position is assigned to the Food for Health, Product Development through the Value Chain, Bioeconomy, and Production Systems (Plants) Themes under the OMAFRA/UofG Research Programs and will place a greater focus (approx. 2/3) on facilitating knowledge mobilization across the science-policy interface (primary audiences will include government and public sector policy, regulatory, and program management personnel and agencies) and with the balance focused on support of industry outreach initiatives.

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President Research (Agrifood & Partnerships) and working closely with the joint OMAFRA-University of Guelph KTT team, as well as the UofG Research Program Directors and OMAFRA Director Champions for the designated research theme areas, the incumbent will develop and manage programs and activities to facilitate information exchange and networking that will result in the successful translation and transfer of knowledge from its creators to existing and potential users. He or she will foster partnerships between the creators and users of research knowledge, ensure effective communication among stakeholders, staff, faculty, and the joint OMAFRA-UofG KTT team, and create new tools for effective knowledge transfer. The incumbent will also have responsibility for managing budgets to be used for the development and implementation of approved KTT activities.

Requirements of the position include: a Master’s degree (PhD preferred), generally in a field broadly related to agri-food or environment, plus related management experience in public sector or industry environments, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal training or experience in knowledge mobilization principles and practices would be an asset, along with expertise in the development and application of both traditional and emerging communications tools to effectively interact with multiple and diverse audiences. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the policy environment, normally gained through experience in government or related organizations, as well as a familiarity with the university research enterprise. The ideal candidate will have proven project and financial management experience and demonstrate excellent organizational, facilitation, problem-solving, communications and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail, meeting deadlines, exercising sound judgment and working independently.
