About the presenter: Pat Atherton is the project manager of InspireNet, BC’s health services research network funded through the BC Nursing Research Initiative of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. In this role Pat supports KT initiatives for over 3,600 network members in a mostly virtual work environment, leveraging Web 2.0 and webconferencing technologies. She is the resident geek amongst a network of healthcare professionals, academic researchers, and students, primarily in the field of nursing. InspireNet is funded 2010-2015.
Prior to this role, Pat was Executive Director of the BC Environmental and Occupational Health Research Network, funded by MSFHR’s Health of Population Networks program (2005-2010). These eight innovative networks likewise worked to develop KT capacity in the province; InspireNet builds on those experiences. Prior to this work, Pat had less interesting roles at UBC and UVic, and in the public and private sectors.
Pat has had communications in her portfolio for over 20 years and has leveraged tech for KT capacity building for 10 years, seeking new ways to bring people and their ideas together across geographies, disciplines and institutions.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, a master’s degree in public administration and a number of somewhat related certifications.
