The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction is seeking a Director, Knowledge Mobilization

Reports to: Senior Member of Leadership Team

The Director, Knowledge Mobilization (Director, KMb), will be responsible for leading CCSA’s knowledge mobilization portfolio. The Director, KMb, brings a specialized knowledge in the field and provides guidance and leadership to the team of knowledge brokers. The Director collaborates with other colleagues within CCSA and external partners to support organizational priorities and mobilize the latest evidence in substance use and addiction. The Director, KMb, is a member of CCSA’s Senior Leadership Team as well as its Operations Committee.


  • Apply best practices in knowledge mobilization to bridge the gap between what we know and what we do in the field of substance use and addiction
  • Stay abreast of new developments in theory and practices related to KMb, stakeholder engagement and uptake, and partnership development to facilitate uptake
  • Ensure implementation and continuous improvement of the KMb framework, with a specific focus on ensuring uptake of CCSA products
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to the KMb team and ensure their on going development in the field of KMb
  • Ensure that the division successfully achieves the agreed upon KMb deliverables and results on time and on budget
  • Promote evidence-informed practice in KMb and lead the development and evaluation of related organizational tools and processes for continuous improvement
  • Seek strategic opportunities and creates innovative initiatives that position CCSA to advance the latest knowledge and facilitate integrated KMb in the field of substance use and addiction
  • Lead and provide strategic advice for the development, implementation and evaluation of multi-faceted, complex KMb initiatives based on organizational strategic directions and priorities
  • Lead the planning and staging of CCSA’s biennial national Issues of Substance conference
  • As part of the Senior Leadership Team, contribute to overall strategic and business planning, and the activities of CCSA
  • Define measurable indicators aligned with the KMb Framework, including short-, medium- and long-term goals, and ensure the appropriate data collection to measure uptake, use and impact
  • Carry out divisional responsibilities in accordance with CCSA policies and practices including but not limited to management of KMb divisional budget, performance leadership, coaching of staff and human resources management
  • Create a high-performing KMb team
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


  • Master’s or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., science, arts and humanities, health administration, adult education, nursing, or business)
  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in KMb and minimum of five years in leadership/management roles
  • Proven expertise in all aspects of KMb (e.g., generation, synthesis, critical appraisal, product development, knowledge translation, dissemination, exchange, management and evaluation) and partnership development and engagement
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in applying best practices in KMb
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, or professional development of staff, colleagues and partners
  • Experience and expertise in the field of substance use and addiction
  • Experience in writing documents and using innovative tools tailored to various audiences, including plain language writing
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, in particular, superior writing skills to develop, review and write reports


  • Bilingual English and French
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment
