Expressions of Interest to shape Brain Canada supported research

Background: Brain Canada is currently developing programs to bridge translational gaps for brain health innovations and is seeking input from the brain research community to help shape them. The translational programs are a key component of Brain Canada’s application to the Strategic Science Fund (SSF) – the Federal government’s new approach aimed at improving the effectiveness of federal investments in science and research organizations

Purpose of Expression of Interest (EOI): engage in shaping the future of Brain Canada supported research for impact

To strengthen the SSF application and help define the course to impact, Brain Canada is seeking brief EOIs from eligible applicants that meet the requirements of the translational programs. The complete EOI package is due on July 25, 2022 (firm), by 5 PM ET. Following an internal review, a sample of EOIs will be selected to showcase the initial round of translational projects that could be funded if Brain Canada’s SSF application is successful.

Following approval of the SSF application, expected by early 2023, Brain Canada will initiate an open call for translational project proposals. The proposals will undergo external peer review by a panel of experts. Approved translational projects will be eligible to start by April 2024. EOIs selected for Brain Canada’s SSF application will be prioritized for the launch of the translational program following the submission of a full proposal; meaning those who submitted an EOI will be first in line for the available funds, pending a successful peer-review.

The deadline to submit the EOI package, is July 25, 2022, by 5 PM ET.

Eligible applicants may be investigators who are eligible to apply for funding from one of the tri-council agencies (e.g., CIHR), and also knowledge users and/or relevant non-profit organizations.

Please direct general questions by July 13th by email to: impact@braincanada.ca.
