Policy & Knowledge Exchange Officer at McGill University (full time)

Reporting to the Senior Communications Officer of Healthy Brains, Healthy Lives (HBHL), the Policy & Knowledge Exchange Officer supports the efforts and activities of the Canadian Framework for Brain Health (CFBH), a major deliverable for HBHL. The incumbent will be tasked with overseeing the planning of a variety of events, including those open to the public to educate a general audience about brain health, and other closed-room events bringing together researchers to explore topics related to brain health of Canadians. The incumbent will also assist in the development and execution of CFBH initiatives, including grant competitions supporting neuroscience research/policy development and the Canadian Declaration on Brain Health, a policy document that will be assembled based on an extensive expert input.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plans and organizes events, such as facilitated events that bring researchers of different disciplines together to build collaborative teams to explore topics related to brain heath of Canadians. Event support includes but is not limited to venue logistics and booking, development of event agendas and detailed orders of proceedings, management of attendees/speakers/hosts, identification of catering needs, and on-site event support as needed during the events.
  • Oversees committees and/or working groups and offers administrative support including committees working on the integration of social determinants of health into neuroscience.
  • Administrative support includes tasks such as managing committee meetings, preparing meeting agendas, preparing meeting notes, and helping to ensure that committee activities continue to move ahead.
  • Alongside members of the HBHL team, assists in the development and implementation of grant competitions, including assisting in ideation, design and implementation of competition objectives, structures, requirements, and timelines.
  • Oversees a consultation and consensus-building process to develop a Canadian Declaration on Brain Health in line with policy recommendations from the World Health Organization.
  • Oversees the planning and management for a Policy-Research Roundtable.
  • Oversees the planning and management for a licensed TedX event to be held at McGill, ensuring event meets requirements of TedX license.
  • Develops and implements plans to continue momentum on the above work following the World Congress of Neurology.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience in health policy, policy development or advocacy an asset.  Demonstrated ability to develop and implement project plans, track their progress and troubleshoot as needed. Demonstrated experience in event planning and delivery. Proven ability in decision-making. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team. Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented; able to anticipate possible difficulties, troubleshoot and implement solutions. Background in health sciences or social sciences an asset.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:

(MPEX Grade 04) $58,470.00 – $73,090.00 – $87,710.00
