A Day in the Life
Reporting to the Director, SJRI, the Project Facilitator possesses knowledge of, and commitment to, social justice scholarship, takes initiative with SJRI affiliated faculty and the Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) to develop fundable transdisciplinary social justice projects, facilitates projects, identifies funding sources, assists with and participates in grant writing, and liaises between faculty and community partners.

As the Project Facilitator, you will:
– Meet with SJRI affiliated faculty on a regular basis to assist in the development of faculty research agendas, including project development and project applications.
– Meet with community members and potential partners to understand research requirements and objectives.
– Identify SJRI affiliated faculty with research interests aligned to community member and potential partner research needs, and facilitate collaboration between faculty members and community partners.
– Develop project-specific university-community partnerships.
– Maintain knowledge of the field of transdisciplinary social justice.
– Identify/scope potential research projects to advance the field of transdisciplinary social justice.
– Assist with grant writing by providing critical feedback, intellectual input including writing content as appropriate, and liaising with funders.
– Collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator to develop project budgets.
– Meet with the FSC, affiliated researchers and other academic partners regarding current needs and challenges and related available and emerging research support.
– Communicate with current and potential community partners to provide information and follow up on current and emerging issues and objectives.
– Support the Institute’s ongoing efforts at securing external funding and sourcing potential funding opportunities.
– Seek new funding opportunities and work with researchers to apply for funding.
– Liaise with key stakeholders across the University, as appropriate.
– Support the development of the knowledge mobilization goals of the Institute.
– Develop, execute, and provide oversight of Institute’s communication strategy.
– Work with Administrative Coordinator to administer communication tools (e.g. website, newsletters, social media, media).
– Coordinate with communication and media sources at Brock University.
– Assist the Director with SJRI regular reporting requirements.
– Expand external linkages by meeting with community members and potential partners in order to build strong relationships.
– Work with the Director and part-time Administrative Coordinator in the daily running of the SJRI.
– Participate in monitoring SJRI activities.
– Prepare for and attend staff, FSC, and other meetings, as required.
– Provide technological oversight of Walker Complex 251.

Qualifications

What you Need to Succeed
– A doctoral degree in a related field.
– 5 years of related work experience including grant writing, project development, and project facilitation experience.
– Experience establishing and fulfilling a successful research agenda.
– Knowledge of, and sympathy for, contemporary struggles for social justice and equality/
– Knowledge of the research interests of SJRI affiliated faculty.
– Applied experience in knowledge mobilization concepts.
– Knowledge of community groups, their objectives, and research interests.
– Knowledge of granting agencies, related procedures, etc.
– In depth understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
– Experience working in, and navigating, complex institutional environments whether academic, governmental, non-governmental or non-profit.
– Functional knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, websites etc.).
– Advanced writing and editing skills, with an emphasis on grant writing and the preparation of research agendas.
– Clear and open communication, consultation, collaboration and, where possible, consensus with all stakeholder groups both internal and external to the University (including activists, professionals and community organizations).
– Ability to develop long-term professional relationships with community members and partner organizations.
– Ability to motivate others.
– Proactive, action-oriented, strong initiative and ability to get things done independently with minimal supervision.
– Sound judgment.
– Flexible with the ability to manage various and changing priorities, ensuring tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
– Ability to interpret research and grant opportunities, guidelines, procedures, etc.
– Ability to turn brilliant ideas into fundable projects.
– Engagement with First Nations communities (an asset).

Salary and Benefit Information
– L $49,657 – $75,417*
– This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage, including tuition waiver if applicable.

* The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
